The Satoyama and Satoumi of Noto have been selected as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS), and for many years, agriculture and culture that coexist with nature have been passed down. However, the region has suffered significant damage to its landscapes, livelihoods, and people’s lives due to the earthquakes and heavy rains last year. This third event in the series will be co-hosted in collaboration with the Global Environment Outreach Centre (GEOC).

First, Tsunao Watanabe from UNU-IAS OUIK will introduce the GIAHS Noto’s Satoyama and Satoumi, as well as explain the current situation following last year’s earthquakes and heavy rain damage.

In the subsequent discussion, moderated by Yuko Oyama (GEOC), guests Kiyomi Amaike (Noto Town Fureai Corporation), Chizuru Uesaka (Yonekichi Farm), Katsuyoshi Shuden (Tome Dream Talk Association) will share their commitment to agriculture and discuss the connection between the Satoyama and Satoumi environment and agricultural products.

Furthermore, we will present the real voices of our guests regarding the current state of agriculture affected by the earthquakes and heavy rains. We will share insights on the situation after the disaster, the impact of natural disasters on livelihoods, how to engage with the local community, and thoughts on recovery.
