*Registration Deadline: Tuesday, 21 February 2024
*The event will be conducted only in Japanese and there will be no English interpretation.
Noto’s satoyama and satoumi have been selected as Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS), and for many years, agriculture and culture have coexisted with nature. However, due to last year’s earthquake and heavy rains, the region’s landscape, livelihoods, and people’s lives have suffered significant damage. In this talk event, we will invite local producers from Noto to discuss the current situation and future recovery following the disaster.
In the first half of the event, we will have guest speakers Masako Torii from Torii Soy Sauce Store and Kiyohiro Inaba from Noto Yamabiko, a local agricultural association. They will discuss soy sauce production utilizing local resources, agriculture coexisting with nature, and initiatives that support the local community.
In the second half, following the screening of the video “Let’s Make a Harvest Feast!”, Yuki Hagino from the Nogashi Research Institute will join us to discuss lifestyles that utilize the resources of satoyama and satoumi, efforts in confectionery making, and preparations for disasters.
The moderator will be Sayako Koyama from UNU-IAS OUIK, who will lead the discussion while incorporating ideas for sustainable community development and the future of Noto.
Following the event, attendees are invited to visit the UNU Farmers Market, which will feature products from Noto Peninsula.
