-Weaving Connections Within and Beyond Noto, Beyond the Disasters-
In 2011, Noto’s Satoyama and Satoumi (landscapes and seascapes) were designated as Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) as a region where agriculture, livelihoods, and culture that live in harmony with nature have been passed down over many years. However, the earthquakes and heavy rains in 2024 have had a significant impact on the region’s landscapes, daily life, and local livelihoods.
Continuing from last year, this fourth talk event will invite practitioners who have been contributing to Noto in various ways from both within and outside the region. Together, we will share the current situation following the disaster and explore how people – including those who do not reside in Noto – can continue to stay connected with the region.
All speakers are graduates of Kanazawa University’s “Noto Satoyama Satoumi Meister Program”. Currently based in Noto, Tokyo, and Kyoto, they share updates on Noto’s current situation thorough their activities while remaining closely connected with the region.
In this event, we will learn about the current situation in Noto two years after the disasters and, with insights from the speakers’ real-life experiences, discuss how people living outside the region can stay connected to and engaged with Noto.
