This SDGs Café will focus on the importance of securing water during natural disasters such as earthquakes and heavy rainfall. In the Noto region, wells became a valuable water source that supported daily life after experiencing earthquakes and heavy rainfall. Using these examples, we will learn how wells can be useful during disasters and reflect on the current state and potential of wells in the Kanazawa area.

Kanazawa, too, needs to prepare for natural disasters like earthquakes and heavy rainfall. To start, let’s better understand the risks and think about how we can enhance disaster resilience at the local level.

Main Topics:

  • Natural disaster risks in the Kanazawa area: earthquakes, heavy rainfall, and typhoons—let’s consider the risks.
  • Case studies from the Noto region: how wells were used for water supply after earthquakes and heavy rainfall.
  • The potential of wells in Kanazawa: research on wells in the region and how they can be utilized for disaster preparedness and daily life.
