The Report on the Noto GIAHS Biodiversity Practical Workshop is Now Available

The implementation report for the Noto GIAHS Biodiversity Practical Workshop held at Noto Airport in October 2025 has been completed. This report reflects the presentations delivered on the day of the workshop, including the keynote lecture. The report presents the current findings from research and surveys on how the Noto Peninsula Earthquake and the Oku-Noto heavy rainfall have affected the biodiversity that supports the Satoyama and Satoumi landscapes of Noto, as well as the early signs of ecological recovery. We hope that many people will take the time to read it.

Including the implementation of the practical workshop, we are grateful that the Noto GIAHS Biodiversity Working Group was able to carry out a wide range of activities again this fiscal year. As we enter the third year since the disaster, the Working Group’s role in connecting government agencies, experts, and a diverse range of local stakeholders is becoming increasingly important. At the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability Operating Unit Ishikawa/Kanazawa (UNU-IAS OUIK), we will continue to support the Working Group’s activities in the coming fiscal year and strive to contribute, even in a small way, to the creative recovery of Noto.
