In May 2021, the “Noto Region GIAHS Promotion Council,” organized by local governments in the Noto region, established the “Noto GIAHS Biodiversity Working Group,” which is supported by the United Nations University as a member.
This working group (WG) is focused on preserving and utilizing the biodiversity of the Noto region, which has been recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS). Specialists and local government officials engage in discussions and advance activities to achieve this goal. So far, initiatives have been undertaken to create a system for monitoring the living creatures of Satoyama (rural landscapes) and Satoumi (coastal areas) in collaboration with local residents, including nature observation events at elementary schools and the development of teaching materials about living creatures for children. A website has also been created to share this information with the local community. Please take a look.
