Contributions to ‘Forest Environment 2017’: Special Feature on Forest Blessings and Biological Cultural Diversity

2017/3/15

The special theme of the Forest Culture Association‘s annual report “Forest Environment 2017” is the blessings of the forest and biological cultural diversity. It explores the multifaceted relationship between human culture and forest ecosystems. The introductory chapter, titled “Blessings,” references the Ishikawa Declaration adopted at the First Asia International Conference on Biological Cultural Diversity held in October 2016.

In the section by OUIK researcher Iida titled “Creating New Forest Industries: Challenges by Forestry Operators in Ishikawa Prefecture,” the report examines the production of high-value tea charcoal in the Noto Peninsula and the collection of kumazasa (a type of wild plant) at the foot of Mount Hakusan, discussing how the wisdom of forestry practitioners can lead to the creation of new forest industries.
