Open to Public: World-Changing Leadership Development Program from Kanazawa, Ishikawa 2024 – Presentation Event

日時 / Date : September 16, 2024 (Monday, National Holiday) 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
場所 / Place : Seminar Room B, Shiinoki Geihinkan

This year, the United Nations University OUIK has launched a new initiative aimed at developing youth leaders called the “World-Changing Leadership Development Program from Kanazawa, Ishikawa.” In light of the growing importance of youth participation in addressing global challenges such as sustainable development and climate change, the program seeks to cultivate locally-rooted global leaders.

After conducting a recruitment process in April, we welcomed 13 high school students from Kanazawa City. Since then, we have held lectures on climate change and various environmental issues affecting the region. The program also includes training in speech skills and critical thinking. Over the summer, the students explored local environmental challenges, and they will now present their findings from these inquiry projects.

Everyone is invited to come and listen to their ideas and proposals for the future of our community.

Following this presentation, the students will undergo individual interviews, and two selected participants will represent the United Nations University and Kanazawa’s youth delegation at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Azerbaijan this November, where they will actively engage in various events and discussions.
